July 14, 15: Flight to Cape Town, South Africa
A comfortable international flight takes you to Cape Town, South Africa (arriving on July 15th). Upon arrival, Ryan will welcome and transfer you to the nearby Clarendon Fresnaye Boutique Guesthouse (superior room) for the night.
July 16: Robben Island & Table Mountain
After a delicious breakfast by the pool, cross the bay by boat to Robben Island – a World Heritage Site – where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 of his 27 years in prison. Our local guide will be a one of the former political prisoners who was imprisoned here during the Apartheid regime. Return to the Cape, and after a delicious lunch (included), take a cable car up beautiful Table Mountain (weather permitting) where we will have time to stroll around the top with some of the most incredible vistas in the country. After descending the mountain, we will visit Bo-Kaap (the Malay Quarter) before returning to our beautiful Clarendon Fresnaye Boutique Guesthouse for the night.
July 17: The Peninsula, Cape Point, The Cape of Good Hope & Constantia Wine Estates
The day starts on the Peninsula with a coastal drive through Clifton, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, and a stop on Chapman’s Peak for some breathtaking views. Then to the “reserve” as local surfers call it, for a visit to the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Point and the famous Cape of Good Hope, followed by a visit to the Simons Town area to view the Boulders Penguin Colony. A special lunch (included) will be enjoyed on the False Bay stretch of coastline between Millers Point and Kalk Bay Harbour. We then head out to the Groot Constantia Wine region to taste this area’s fine wines, made famous by Louis XIV and Napoleon. Return to our Clarendon Fresnaye Guesthouse for the night.
July 18, 19: Chobe River, Botswana
After breakfast, transfer to the Cape Town airport for our international flight (not included) to Kasane, Botswana. Upon arrival, our open-sided Landcruisers will collect us and transfer us to the Chobe River where we will spend the next two nights at the eco-award winning Bakwena Safari Lodge. This lodge is well known for its socially responsible practices (eg. solar power, organic food, community development initiatives, and waste management). The park borders the beautiful Chobe river and is well-known for it huge herds of elephants that come down to the river each day to drink. Enjoy river-boat and land-based wildlife safaris, bird watching excursions, tiger-fishing expeditions, and the option to visit with indigenous communities along the way.
July 20, 21: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
After a final morning game drive, our drivers will take us across the border (1 hour drive) to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe -- home of the magnificent Victoria Falls!! Spend the next two days relaxing at the historic Victoria Falls Hotel (Signature Wing Rooms) with a panoramic view of the Falls. Set under the shade of acacia trees on the banks of the river, enjoy pristine views of the famous river and the “smoke that thunders”. Lunch is served ‘alfresco’ on the veranda overlooking the rolling lawns and the Zambezi River, while dinner (not included) is served in a fine à la carte restaurant offering a delightful mixture of modern sophistication and old-world style. The first day we will explore the Zimbabwean side of the Falls, and then the second day we will cross the border into Zambia and photograph the Zambian side of the Falls.
July 22: Flight to Nairobi, Kenya
Enjoy a day at leisure, shopping for souvenirs in the picturesque town of Victoria Falls, or reading a good book and drinking a gin & tonic while overlooking the Falls. In the late afternoon, transfer to the Victoria Falls airport for your international flight (not included) to Nairobi, Kenya (July 22nd). Upon arrival in Nairobi, our drivers will welcome us with champagne and cold face towels, before driving us to the nearby Eka Hotel for the night.
