Search for the ‘BIG-FIVE’ in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, explore the source of the Nile River, and visit rural communities and MBUNTU enterprises in Uganda. Become one of the original tribe members of a new community of Mbuntu Ambassadors.
Oct. 13, 14: Flight to Nairobi, Kenya
Depart from Toronto to Amsterdam/Brussels/Heathrow (flights to be determined) for a short layover before boarding your flight for Nairobi, Kenya. Upon arrival in Nairobi (Oct. 14th), Luke and Mark will collect you in 4x4 Landcruisers (with pop-up roofs) and transfer you to the Karen Country Lodge for the night. Karibu Kenya!
Oct. 15: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
The adventure begins! Our group will drive in two vehicles to Maasai Mara in time for an afternoon game drive in one of the best wildlife reserves in the world! After tracking down the Big 5, we will enjoy a appetizing dinner and bonfire and spend the night at Ilkeliani Tented Camp. The next day, enjoy an early breakfast before heading out into the Reserve for a full day of wildlife drives in search of lions, leopards, cheetah, elephants, giraffe and zebra. After returning for a hot shower, we'll gather together for a late night outdoor dinner (our favourite part of the trip), and share stories before spending a second night under canvas.
Oct. 17: Flight to Entebbe, Uganda
After an early breakfast, drive back to Nairobi and transfer to the Nairobi airport in time for our international flight (not included) to Entebbe, Uganda. Upon arrival in Entebbe, our drivers will collect us in 4x4 Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs and transfer us to the Entebbe Airport Guesthouse for dinner and the night.
Oct. 18, 19: Lake Mburo, Uganda
After a delicious breakfast, we will drive through various roadside communities and pass over the equator (where we will stop for lunch) en route to Lyantonde Town and our eco-award winning accommodations at Rwakobo Lodge near Lake Mburo. The following day, we will have the opportunity to meet with the staff of the Salama SHIELD Foundation. This will include visits to rural village communities to learn about how women are utilizing loans to start businesses, as well as a visit to a traditional healer. We will return to Rwakobo Lodge for dinner and stargazing atop Rwakobo Rock. And for those feeling even more adventurous, you can take an optional late night game drive to see the tree climbing leopards at night!
Oct. 20, 21: Jinja, Uganda
After an eventful two days in Southwestern Uganda, we will drive from Lyantonde to the world-famous source of the Nile River in Jinja. After exploring the craft vendors on Main Street, we will retire to Surjio’s Guesthouse for his famous pizza and the night. The next morning we will enjoy an early breakfast overlooking the Nile River before driving through tea and sugar cane plantations en route to Mbale to visit the MBUNTU coffee cooperatives and processing facilities. After spending some time learning about coffee production from the local farmers, we will drive back to Jinja for dinner and overnight at the very special Wildwaters Lodge.
Oct. 22: Kampala, Uganda
After relaxing, reading and sun-bathing by the Nile River in the morning, we will have our lunch at Wildwaters Lodge before driving back to Uganda's capital city for craft-market shopping and sight-seeing in one of our favourite city’s in the world. Enjoy a delectable dinner at one of our favourite hotspots in the city before finally retiring to the Fairway Hotel for the night.
Oct. 23, 24: International Flight Home
Enjoy a second day of sight-seeing and craft shopping in Kampala, before transferring back to the Entebbe airport for your international flight back to Europe. Transfer planes in Europe, and arrive back home (Oct. 24th) with memories and photographs of your magical MBUNTU adventure in East Africa. It is now up to you to recruit more for the tribe!
